Yummy House
278 just north of Steinmart, near St Francis Thrift
|
Our #1 favorite! Chinese and Japanese Restaurant.
Excellent hot and sour soup. $20 dinner for two includes soup, egg roll, crab rangoon,
chicken wings, rice and your choice of any two regular dinners! Mu Shu Pork was
exceptional with baby string beans and sliced cucumber. The Lunch buffet is exceptionally
fresh. Chinese, Terriyaki, GREAT Tempura, Bento boxes, Sushi...they have a huge menu.
Don't miss the Gyoza dumplings and California rolls! Say hi to owner Wei and that the
Morgan's sent you. He's always there or delivering orders.

Shwe Myanmar
Behind NY Pizza in Heritage Plaza
|
A new Burmese restaurant that is like a cross between Indian and Thai with decent sushi
thrown in. It is run by a son and his mother both natives of Burma. The Beef cubes and potatoes
in brown gravy with thousand layer bread was exceptional for $12.95. Appetizer platter for two
with shrimp tempura, golden triangles (triangles of puff pastry stuffed with a potato filling),
awesome spring rolls and satay chicken skewers. The "homemade sauce" was a spicy chili sauce
that the mother makes. Order something with this dipping sauce. It is unique and tasty.
Very inexpensive sushi. We were given a complimentary dessert dish made of what seemed to be
rice, coconut, and raisins cooked into a slightly honey-sweet and dry cake, sliced into bite-size
pieces and served very warm. It was an excellent finish. Be sure to order some thousand layer
bread (Roti). It's some of the best we have ever had.

One of our top 5 favorites. Cajun and low country specialties. Jambalya, Etoufe,
awesome Po Boys (potato crusted catfish with roumalade!
or Scallops or fried grouper or...!), real fried okra, great hush puppies,
cajun potatoes. Beignets! Around $8. Great for lunch or dinner. Excellent
Sunday breakfast buffet. Now serving Aligator Po Boys and Etouffe!

Another top 5. One of the best early bird specials on the island! $13.95 gets you tea or lemonade,
a bowl of soup, salad or seafood chowder, one of many incredible entrees such as
shrimp and grits, crab stuffed flounder, tilapia, sirloin steak, roast pork, and
several others. Served with vegetables, starch and bread. The grits in the
shrimp and grits dinner was a "cake" made of grits and cheese, then fried crispy
on the outside with shrimp and sauce. An interesting and tasty change for a
common dish on the island! Dinner prices $25-30

Hugo's

One of our top 10. Hugo was formerly the manager of Fitzgerald's for
many years. His new restaurant has a similar menu with many of the same
staff. The Pecan Chicken is awesome marinated in buttermilk, with a thin, crunchy coating and
a syrupy sweet pecan topping that really offsets the chicken! Lobster on the early-bird
special menu! $15

| Best Gyros on the island! Make sure you order the onion
rings which are more like a very lightly breaded onion "straw" than a ring. If
you've had onion straws at Ruby Tuesday's, these are much better! For an added
treat start off with a hot, fresh-baked pretzel as an appetizer. Best pretzels
on the island!

The food fits the environment with the best Indian food
we've ever had outside of London and Toronto. Chicken Tikka Masala, Pistachio
Chicken Passanda, Byriani, Samosa, Pakora, Onion Bhaji, Red Fort Lamb
Delicacy, stuffed Kulcha, Naan, Tandoori Chicken... it's all wonderful!
I'm looking forward to trying every item on the menu! Get the sampler platter
for 2 on your first visit. The Indian Parfait was rice pudding, custard
and full of chopped melon, raisins and nuts. Dinner here can be very
expensive, but worth it! NOT kid-friendly and NOT a jeans and T-shirt
place. Note: haven't been here since the menu went more mainstream YMMV$25+

Quick, cheap, excellent seafood. Fried, sauteed and blackened. A real
southern fish-camp style restaurant with a shortage of tables and a few
outside booths. Get here early because the lines wrap around the building!
Grilled jerk grouper, fried scallops and blackened triggerfish are
excellent. Best cole slaw on the island, super-sweet, tangy and crunchy!

back about $12.
